A Scrappy Project - Patchwork Tea Towel

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

I must admit I am in desperate need of some scrap organization!  Right now I throw all scraps regardless of size into this bowl I keep on the cutting table.

When it gets to the point that not one more itty-bitty scrap will fit, I empty the bowl into a gallon Ziploc bag.  I now have several Ziplock bags full of awesome scraps of various sizes but have yet to make anything.  That finally changed this weekend!

While shopping at Target on Friday, I came across some plain white flour sack towels and had a light bulb moment.  I remembered a blog post I had seen on Film in the Fridge a long time ago where she used scraps to gussy up a rather boring tea towel.  Perfect!

I got home, pre-washed my towel and got to work sorting my scraps ... oh my!  I really should have put more thought into organizing these as I went.

After finding several scraps from the very pretty and super fun Valori Wells' Nest collection that were all at least 4" tall, my design was set.  I got to work cutting the scraps and sewing them together.  I've never made anything patchwork before and this was a lot of fun!

After I got them all sewed together, I pinned it to the tea towel about 3" from the bottom.

The result?  An easy way to turn a boring, white towel and with scraps only turn it into a super fabulous tea towel that makes me smile when I use it!

Of course now that I've made me one, Mom is demanding one of her own!  I started to make one just like this but I think I'm going to try something a little different out of some of her favorite fabrics, Cloud9 Beyond the Sea. It's going to be a surprise so you'll just have to stay tuned to see!

Just In ... Opal Owl by Tina Givens

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

How adorable is Opal Owl by Tina Givens?  This is such a fun collection of fabric and Opal's face just cracks me up! I've already snagged some of the Trellis and Bark in Aqua to make some PJs and they are turning out really cute.  So cute that I'm afraid when I get them finished I might not ever take them off. LOL

I'd stock up now if I were you ... I don't see the super cute Opal hanging around our shop long.  Can't wait to see what everyone makes!

Congratulations!

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Congratulations to Michelle and Gina of Cloud9 Fabrics for snagging an awesome feature in none other than MARTHA STEWART LIVING MAGAZINE ~ woot! They've been included in a feature called "Dreamers to Doers". I didn't realize until reading the article that they actually conceived and launched Cloud9 within 3 months ~ amazing! Just goes to show what happens when you believe strongly enough. Truly inspirational!

You can check out their write-up on the article on Michelle's blog, Cicada Daydream and find their two fabric collections in our shop.  Their Beyond the Sea collection is still among my absolute favorites.

Just In ... Make It Perfect Sweet Dreams Sewing Pattern

Thursday, July 8, 2010

I love pajama pants especially really pretty ones! I was so excited when I went to place an order for more Make It Perfect patterns on the very day Toni released her latest pattern, Sweet Dreams. Talk about perfect timing!

The PJs look long and roomy .. perfect for lounging around all day in! So now the big decision .... which fabrics do I use first?? I could go with the very ones that she has featured on the cover, Heather Bailey's Church Flowers Pink but I'm thinking I might go with Happy Butterfly Pumpkin from Sandi Henderson's Meadowsweet line or Climbing Vine Spice from Laura Gunn's Poppy line.

I'm definitely open to suggestions ... which fabrics would you use to make the PJs??

Birthday Surprise

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

Mom and our sweet, talented friend Kristy teamed up to make me these personalized Hershey Kisses and chocolate bars for my birthday.

I've been such a fan of the circle rounds and buy them for pretty much every holiday or occasion. So when Kristy came out with the Happy Birthday chocolate bar wrappers earlier this year I started dropping hints immediately ~ and apparently Mom took the hint. :)

Thank you Mom and Kristy for being sneaky and teaming up to make my birthday special!  They are almost too cute to eat .. almost.

For those who aren't familiar with Kristy and Posh Pixels Design Studio, you've got to check out all the fun and fabulous items she's got in her Etsy store. I'd also suggest you follow her blog or become a fan of her's on Facebook where she offers freebies! Woot!

Blog Update

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

While Mom took a much needed vacation to the beach {jealous}, I decided the blog needed a facelift. I updated the colors, updated the logo and hopefully made the blog look cleaner and more Lola Pink!

One of my favorite new features is Share Your Pictures (lefthand sidebar) which links you to our new Flickr Group. We've got amazingly talented fans and would love for you to share pictures of your fabulous creations. I'm always amazed and inspired when I see what you make using our fabrics.

This blog is definitely a work in progress so we'd love to hear back from y'all. Especially if there is something you'd like to see us doing that we either aren't doing at all or not enough of.

Hope everybody had a great holiday weekend!

Happy Sewing!
